Unforgettable Place to Stay in Milos: Fisherman’s House
The best place to stay in Milos, in our opinion, is a fisherman’s house on the water. And the perfect spot to maximize your experience, is in Klima. Klima is a small fishermanโs village on the waterfront in Milos and is one of the top destinations on the island. It has the most colorful buildings on the island, crystal clear waters, and arguably one of the best sunset views of the Cyclades. Staying in a fishermanโs house in Klima is not uncommon, almost every house is some sort of rental property. If Klima is fully booked for your trip to Milos, there are some beach-front and water-front options in these towns as well: Fourkovouni, Firopotamos. We picked this fishermanโs house in Klima for two nights for our stay, and hereโs why it was one of the best decisions of our trip:
Our Airbnb Was THE Tourist Attraction
Ok, we could see how that might be a bit off-putting, but Milos is not Santorini. The tourists around the fishermanโs house were not waiting in a mile-long line to take an Instagram photo. If you look at the image above, you can maybe see a few figures if you look hard enough (and no, we did not photoshop them out). The most tourists we ever saw in beginning of September was may 20 tourists collecting awkwardly on the pier for sunset. Meanwhile, we enjoyed the sunset, twilight, and breakfast comfortably on our private balcony, sipping our glasses of rose.

The Waterfront Views: Day, Evening, and Night
Thereโs no denying waterfront hotels have a certain appeal to them, particularly with the views you get in Klima. The waterfront was stunning whether it was middle of the day, sunset, or twilight. Check out our pictures below, the images speak for themselves. Being able to experience all of these in Klima really made the Airbnb a special experience and one of the biggest reasons a fisherman’s house has to be one of the best places to stay in Milos. As an added bonus, the waterfront property gives you immediate access to a pool of water for a swim, free and all-natural white noise for sleeping, and more.
The Location
Relative to the other main attractions in Milos, Klima is very centrally located (check out our full Travel Map for details). The convenient location makes Klima one of, if not the best place to stay in Milos. For the best meals on the island, Klima is only 30 minutes from Plaka, the capitol full of delicious restaurants. Adamantas, the main port town, is only 30 minutes away. Itโs also fairly easy to take a quick road trip to the beaches to the north of the island. We Had an Amazing Host
Part of our experience at the Airbnb was the location and house itself, the other part was due to our incredible host. Upon our arrival, we were gifted with a bottle of rose and two sets of home-baked treats. The fridge was stocked with plenty of bottled and carbonated water. They also left us home-made jam with crackers for breakfast, alongside the standard coffee offerings. The Airbnb itself had everything we needed and more โ stove, microwave, AC, and the cutest balcony furniture.
Best Sleep of Our Lives
Iโm not exaggerating here. Klima is a single line of fishermanโs houses along the waterfront. Our bedroom was towards the back of the home, which meant it was isolated from the already quiet outdoors. It also meant there were no windows to the outdoors, making our room pitch-black. The home was also equipped with an AC unit for the bedroom.
The Worst Part of the Airbnb Was Fun
The worst part of staying in a fishermanโs house on the waterfront is the actual waterfront. If one evening the tide gets high or the waters rough, the seaweed will pile up against the house doors and youโll have to walk through some water to get to your door.
This definitely happened to us one night. And it didnโt go away the next morning when we needed to lug our suitcases across the water to our car. We ended up walking through it barefoot and carried our luggage above water (the water level only got up to our ankles).
So if you decide to stay in a fishermanโs house, donโt pack a suitcase you canโt carry.
